Phendimetrazine
Bontril® · Melfiat®
A Schedule III appetite suppressant that offers slightly stronger and longer-lasting appetite control than phentermine. An effective option for patients who need more consistent suppression or haven't responded to phentermine.
What Is Phendimetrazine?
Phendimetrazine is a sympathomimetic amine appetite suppressant, similar in action to phentermine but with a slightly different mechanism that includes effects on both norepinephrine and dopamine pathways. It is classified as a Schedule III controlled substance — one class higher than phentermine — reflecting its slightly higher abuse potential and potency.
Available in immediate-release tablets (taken 2–3 times daily before meals) and extended-release capsules (taken once daily), phendimetrazine offers flexibility in dosing that phentermine doesn't provide.
Like other stimulant appetite suppressants, it is approved for short-term use alongside a calorie-reduced diet and exercise program, under medical supervision.
